Pocket Pet Care

At Northwest Veterinary Hospital, we are pleased to provide veterinary care for a variety of pocket pets and other non-traditional companion animals. These pets have unique dietary and medical needs, and our team works closely with families to help support their long-term health and comfort.

Pocket Pet & Exotic Care

We offer care for ferrets, guinea pigs, rabbits, reptiles, and limited avian patients, with a focus on poultry and ducks. Whether your pet needs a wellness exam, help with a new concern, or guidance on proper care at home, we are here to help. Because these species often hide signs of illness, routine examinations are especially important for catching problems early and keeping your pet healthy.

Wellness Exams

Preventive care is an important part of keeping pocket pets and exotics healthy. During wellness visits, we evaluate body condition, teeth or beak health when appropriate, skin, coat or feathers, mobility, and overall condition. We also discuss nutrition, habitat setup, temperature and humidity needs, enrichment, and other factors that can have a major impact on your pet’s health. Our goal is to help you create the best possible environment for your animal at every life stage.

Species We Commonly See

Northwest Veterinary Hospital commonly sees ferrets, guinea pigs, rabbits, reptiles, and limited avian patients, especially poultry and ducks. If you have questions about whether we can see your specific pet, please contact our team before your visit. We are happy to let you know whether your pet is within the scope of the species we currently treat and help guide you to the right next step.

Sick Visits & Common Concerns

Small mammals, reptiles, and birds can decline quickly when they are not feeling well, so timely evaluation is important. We assess concerns such as appetite changes, weight loss, abnormal droppings, skin or shell issues, respiratory signs, mobility changes, and other symptoms that may indicate illness. If your pet seems quiet, stops eating, or is behaving differently than normal, we encourage you to have them evaluated as soon as possible.

At Northwest Veterinary Hospital, we are committed to providing thoughtful, individualized care for pocket pets and select exotic species. Schedule an appointment today to learn how we can help support the health and well-being of your ferret, guinea pig, rabbit, reptile, poultry bird, or duck.
